ALBUQUERQUE - The Albuquerque City Council voted commonly last week night to purchase the $3.6 million site off Osuna Road NE where Wal-Mart expects to build a Super center. Council President Debbie O'Malley needs the open space to be used as a landing zone for balloonists.
The money would come from common-obligation bonds and open-space money that already targets balloon fiesta projects.

In recognition of Child Abuse Prevention Month, 327 balloons would be released coming week outside of the UA Child Development Resources Center. Each balloon represents one complete case of child abuse in Tuscaloosa County in the past year.
"The balloon release would serve as an original reminder to all that there are children who are being mistreated," said Leila Holley, the executive director of Child Abuse Prevention Services of Tuscaloosa. "Sometimes people require visuals to grab the severity of situations."
